Test Code FAHGBSPEN GROUP B STREP FOR PENICILLIN ALLERGIC PATIENTS

Important Note

Specimen is stable for 24-hours.

This test is intended for pregant women with a penicillin allergy. A PCR test for Group B Strep will first be perforemed. If the test is POSITIVE, a culture will be done to provide susceptibility information. 

Note that it is possible to have a POSITIVE PCR result and not gro the organism. This is because PCR has a higher sensitivity and is able to detect Group B Strep in lower numbers.
