The ADA (American Diabetes Association) 2018 Guidelines are reported with each A1c result:
Normal: <5.7%
Prediabetes: 5.7% - 6.4%
Diagnostic for Diabetes: ≥6.5%
Goals for Glycemic Control in Diabetes:
<7.0%: A1c target for nonpregnant adults with diabetes. More or less stringent glycemic goals may be appropriate for individual patients.
<7.5%: A1c target for children and adolescents with type I diabetes. A lower goal is reasonable if it can be achieved without excessive hypoglycemia.
